The collected volume „Participation for Transformation,“ released in November 2023, offers an extensive insight into citizen participation in urban areas, combined with practical experiences from five cities. One of the Eurotowns member cities contributed two articles, well knowing that explicitly small and medium sized towns benefit from and depend on successful citizen dialogue and participation because: Especially in today’s world, this interaction is more necessary than ever before in order to counteract the decline in trust in public institutions and administrations. Moreover, social cohesion is more important than ever to overcome the effects of various cross-border crises (coronavirus, climate, armed conflicts, etc.).
The volume covers key topics in sustainable urban development like resilience, climate adaptation, sustainable mobility, and digitalization; that go well in line with some of the Eurotowns task team focuses. Targeting individuals from politics, academia, and urban planning, the book serves as a guide for forming inclusive, effective, and resilient urban communities. Published under the „Zukunftsstadt Goes Europe“ program, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, it aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and transfer in sustainable urban development among Eurotowns members and beyond.
