Upcycling Festival

Hasselt  19 – 21 September 2014
In Hasselt, giving discarded materials a new lease on life is completely normal. Either the materials are reused for their original purpose or are incorporated in something completely new. ‘Upcycling’ is the new trend to reduce waste flows and re-use materials.
Hasselt is putting upcycling in the spotlight together with partners from Italy, Spain, Poland and Sweden. It receives support from the European Union for this.
The list of speakers at the symposium on Friday 19 September includes Benjamin Rose, Director of Operations, NYC Centre for Materials Reuse (CMR) who will discuss his groundbreaking experiences in the USA; Carina Bischoff, the owner of the Upcycling Fashion Store Berlin will emphasise practical as well as economic patterns in the upcycling of “fabric”.
This part of the symposium is in English. No prior knowledge of upcycling or recycling required. You can register until Friday 12 September at www.upcyclingfestival.org.
On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September there will be a creative exhibit, workshops, open-houses in upcycling hotspots and an “Upcycling fair”.
