The Belgian city of Hasselt was the venue for a networking and expo event for lighting artists held on 19 October. In the course of the event 14 Nordic lighting artists presented their work.
The event was the first in a series, and forms part of a two year joint project entitled “Nordic Light”. The project is funded by the Nordic Culture Fund.
Showcase for lighting artwork
In 2014, the project is going to organize two more events aimed at lighting artists. At these gatherings Nordic lighting artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their artworks and engage with others working in the field internationally. The target group at these events includes in particular decision-makers at municipal level, the organizers of lighting events and other representatives from the lighting industry.
“Engaging with others working in the field is the key to successful projects. It was a fruitful event and I left feeling very inspired”, says Meeli Kõiva, one of the artists who took part in the event in Belgium.
The events comprise a portfolio seminar and networking sessions. The portfolio seminars showcase artworks by lighting artists that have been selected by a jury of international art consultants and curators. At any one event some 15-20 artists will present their digital art portfolios on big screen.
Next event in Tartu on May 9th 2014
The project’s next event will be staged in the Estonian city of Tartu on May 9th 2014. The artists taking part in the project will be chosen via a process of open application. The application deadline is December 9th. Further information and details of how to apply can be found here: http://jyvaskyla.netpaper.fi/1599.
