Europe for Citizens project proposal – Network of Towns – partner search

Eurotowns is looking for partners (medium sized cities/municipalities – 50.000 – 250.000 inhabitants) to submit a project proposal under the next Europe for Citizens calls for proposals, strand Network of towns whose deadline is 1st September 2014.

The project idea would be to strengthen the active participation of citizens to the definition of local policies and politics and raise awareness towards EU policies and political aspects, with the aim to favor the possibility for citizens to approach Europe in a most direct and effective way. From the results of the last elections of the European Parliament, it is evident how participation, especially from citizens living in peripheral/suburban areas, has been low, therefore we would like to try to incentivize their active participation through the involvement of local actors such as volunteering, third sector, etc, in acting as a bridge between the city and peripheral areas. This is also a hot topic in EU discussions.

Of course, the project should underline the important role a medium sized city (respect to a big city/capital) can play in facilitating this process.

In particular, among the calls for proposals, we have identified Strand 2 (Democratic engagement and civic participation), measureNetwork of Towns as the most appropriate. The measure aims to provide funding for municipalities and associations working together on one (or more) common theme/s, creating the basis for a long-lasting collaboration; it is targeted both to new/to be developed networks and to already established ones.

You can find attached a short summary of the call, together with 2014 Priorities concept.

The maximum duration of the project can be 24 months and the proposal should foresee a minimum of 4 events (but there can be more events).
One of these events will be for sure 1 (next) General Assembly, together with related Annual Event, to be organized in Autumn 2015 in Reggio Emilia and linked to the important event Expo2015 Milano.
And also other events/meetings (i.e. Task Teams meetings, other interesting events – eventually up to 2016 General Assembly) should be organized.

Please consider that network meetings in the frame of the project should be always linked to events.

Project budget is established through lump sums automatically calculated mainly on the basis on the number of partner countries involved and participants per event (the more we are, the more we get!)

If you are interested to join the project as partner, please let know something as soon as possible and fill in the attached partner form, to be sent  back to both Nubia and Marianna (as indicated) by Wednesday 13rd August.
