Now in its third year, the award recognises outstanding work being carried out by cities and local authorities across Europe to meet the transport needs of their communities in an effective and sustainable way. The winning region or local authority will receive a prize of EUR 10 000 and have the chance to gain international recognition for their initiatives.
The SUMP Award
Towns, cities and local authorities from the European Union’s 28 Member States and the European Economic Area are eligible and encouraged to apply. Authorities are not required to have completed the entire process of developing and implementing a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan in order to be eligible for the award. The award theme for 2014 is ‘monitoring implementation to improve the SUMP’.

|A Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan is a way for cities and local authorities to provide integrated and sustainable transport options to meet the mobility needs of their people and businesses. The SUMP Award is part of the European Commission’s Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign and is linked to the European Mobility Week, which runs every year from 16 – 22 September. This year’s theme is ‘our streets, our choice’.|
